日本媒體報導，日本在8月15日第二次世界大戰投降紀念日當天，包括首相安倍晉三在內的4名閣員將不會前往靖國神社參拜，此事已透過非正式管道告知大陸政府。
根據日本TBS電視台報導，安倍晉三內閣當中，首相安倍、副首相兼財務大臣麻生太郎、內閣官房長官菅義偉、外務大臣岸田文雄15日都不會前往靖國神社參拜。
日本防衛大臣小野寺五典8日接受記者訪問表態，不會去參拜靖國神社；日本內閣官房長官菅義偉則表示，「不方便表態」，許多內閣成為也都類似表態；副首相麻生表示「4月份已經參拜了」，也表示出此次不會再去參拜。
只有行政革新大臣稻田朋美已向首相官邸表示，有意於15日前往靖國神社參拜。對於閣員是否該前往靖國神社參拜，安倍晉三持自由立場，不反對以個人名義參辦。
靖國神社供奉著為國戰死的軍人，包括14名遭到盟軍處死的二戰一級戰犯，因此每到日本官員前往靖國神社參拜，時常引起周邊曾遭日本侵略的國家不滿與抗議。
