Ultra HD TVs in the Taiwan market held an estimated 30% share of overall TV sales during the fourth quarter of 2014 and are likely to see a five-fold increase in on-year sales over the 2015 Lunar New Year period, according to local market estimates.
TV vendors estimate that around 10,000 Ultra HD TVs will be sold in Taiwan during 2015, with 3,000 expected to ship in the first quarter of the year. 42-inch units are currently at the forefront.
In terms of overall LCD TVs, vendors are seeing their overall share of 47-inch and above size TVs sold in Taiwan increase, with LG witnessing its share increase from 30% in 2012 to 50.3% as of November 2014.
Taiwan's TV market, which is estimated at around 1.1-1.6 million in 2015, is currently seeing shipments dominated by Sampo. However, the top vendor in terms of sales revenue generated in the market is Sony followed by LG Electronics.
Meanwhile, Ultra HD promotional events that include slashing pricing will be a key point for local vendors and retailers throughout the beginning of 2015 in order to spur sales.
