（中央社密西西比州哥倫比亞市24日綜合外電報導）強烈暴風雨昨天侵襲美國東南部，造成至少4人喪生和數以千計家庭斷電，電力公司正在努力搶救。

在密西西比州哥倫比亞市（Columbia），警察必須在每一個主要道路交會口指揮交通，因為暴風雨吹掉或打壞號誌燈。同時有50個人受傷，損壞或被摧毀的住家和企業房舍數目目前尚不清楚。

連傑克．莫里斯天然氣公司（Jack Morris GasCo.）的屋頂都被掀掉。

美國國家氣象局駐傑克森市（Jackson）辦公室今天早晨派出小組到馬立昂郡（Marion）和瓊斯郡（Jones），以判定橫掃密西西比州南部的這場暴風雨是否是颶風。
